San Rafael Lighted Boat Parade

Parades can be hit or miss. They’re inherently uncool, but if you look for the right stuff, the experience can be magical. My favorite memory of a parade is a cinematic one, from one of the most brilliant movies ever made, Drop Dead Gorgeous. But of course not every parade will have Amy Adams, Kirstie Alley, Denise Richards, Kirsten Dunst and a giant exploding swan float because life isn’t fair. Fortunately, there are redeeming parades out there, and the San Rafael Lighted Boat parade is one them. The parade centers on the San Rafael Canal and is one of Marin County's most festive activities in addition to being one of the country’s largest on the water parades. And it’s for a good cause; the Parade is presented by Community Action Marin whose main charter is to respond to local poverty issues while at the same time giving public and private representatives a better understanding of those issues confronting low-income people in Marin. So come check out the 100 or so lit up yachts and restore your faith in parades!
