San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival

The ocean is something that never fails to amaze me. It’s vastness, power and mystery are among the many captivating qualities. As a recreational surfer and water lover, the ocean is something that is very near and dear to my heart. I have grown up spending countless hours in and around the ocean, learning to respect its merciless strength the hard way. It is easy to underestimate the importance of the seven seas, but it is and has been for millions of years, a source of life. So why not celebrate it?

This weekend the Cowell Theater in Fort Mason is hosting the 13th annual San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival. The lineup includes 48 ocean themed films from twelve countries around the world as well as eight cinematographers from around the Bay Area. Attendees will be given the chance to discuss current ocean events during an open panel with several of the filmmakers and on Sunday there will be a free showing of the student film competition featuring works from high and middle school students from the U.S., Morocco and Turkey.
