February Issue – Where to Eat, Best Doctors
Find the best doctor, best place to eat in Marin and what's new with Mill Valley's El Paseo

Our February issue is out, been delivered to the homes of Marin and newsstands (physical and virtual) … and the letters have already started coming in. It’s official–here in Marin County – we love our food and food makers. Our second Tastemakers article, where chefs tell us their favorite places to eat has already gotten people talking. Starting with the gorgeous cover shot by Lori Eames of Harmony Restaurant’s savory, delicious sweet rice dumplings, which (full disclosure) are my go-to addiction these days. Speaking of food, we’ve welcomed new travel writer, Kimberley Lovato into our pages with her feature on the island of Vis thirty miles off Croatia’s Dalmation coast. Besides it’s obvious VISual beauty, it’s a food and wine destination recently opened to visitors.
If size matters in regards to local economy, this issue, our third largest ever is an indication that times are good. We had two sections this month that helped make this happen. In the first section, our robust Best Doctor’s list, a peer-reviewed listing of the best specialists here in the Bay Area, I was happy to see my doctors made the list. And in our Destinations Department, we tip off readers to the best views on Oahu, some require a good pair of hiking shoes.
For those in love –or just want to share some love. Calin Van Paris has deciphered the meanings of common flowers, for instance a tulip means “believe me,” while a cala lilly symbolizes beauty, virtue and sensuality. (I had thought they were for funerals). Art director Veronica Sooley gathered eight glitzy ways to say “I Love you.” And if you’re heading out for a romantic meal at Mill Valley’s El Paseo, read up on it’s storied history. And yes, that is Mo De Long posing for a photo with her fiancé. And for those of us who LOVE where we live, enjoy the poetry of Ushi Patel combined with photos from Daniel Fox, in a tribute to the Headlands.
Interested in the upcoming SuperBowl L (L Roman numeral for 50) here in the Bay Area. Stephanie Martin talks with Novato’s Keith Bruce who has already been tasked as the CEO of the Bay Area Superbowl host committee, the article includes some pretty exciting features to expect in the new stadium.
And finally, for the house looky-loos –(me included) Laura Hilgers introduces us to a dream home in Sleepy Hollow.
Enjoy – and as always we love feedback (good and bad) – mtowle@marinmagazine.com
